FAQ

FAQ

What is Frocktails?

Twin Cities Frocktails is an annual event that celebrates and connects the local maker community through a fabulous night out together.

Frocktails is a global event that brings together sewists and fashion enthusiasts. Frocktails events worldwide, are usually large social gatherings where participants dress up in fancy outfits they've made themselves. The events are an opportunity to meet up with fellow makers, make new friends, and enjoy a night of talking about sewing and showing off your garment.

But it doesn’t stop there! TC Frocktails aims to nurture the sewing community through workshops, get-togethers and more, all throughout the year.

Read more about Twin Cities Frocktails here: Craft Industry Alliance: Inside Frocktails

What if I Don't Drink?

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the evening in their own way. Drink tickets will be provided at the door for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Water will always be provided free of charge.

Can I Come to Frocktails?

Yes! Everyone is welcome to come to Frocktails. Networking and meeting new people is the purpose of the evening. The event is aimed at connecting sewists, knitters, crocheters, and makers to each other (How often do you get to be in a room of people who share your same niche passion??) but absolutely everyone is invited.

Hello! My name is Elin and I am an avid sewer and love all things sewing!
Find me at a fabric store on the weekend, and in my sewing room most nights.
I’m originally from Des Moines, Iowa and I moved to NYC where I lived and worked in the fashion industry for 5 years. (I really miss the garment district!)
Now I’m in Minneapolis and still sewing strong!

Madee

Owner of Open Studio Sewing

Hi! My name is Madee and I run Open Studio Sewing where I teach people of all levels how to make their own clothes and accessories.

I'm also a student in Minneapolis College's Apparel Technologies program! I love using secondhand and vintage fabrics to make clothes. I recently designed and sewed my wedding dress out of silk I found at a garage sale! I really enjoy meeting new people through sewing and hope to help grow the local sewing community here in the Twin Cities.

Hannah

@HQMakes

Hi, I'm Hannah! I started sewing as a Girl Scout under the guidance of my textile artist stepmom and also took a few lessons in middle school from my Great Aunt Ginny. But I didn't sew any garments until I got a sewing machine in December of 2019 and started a year of not buying any new clothes in 2020. I dove right into my new passion, and have made hundreds of garments since then (many at the last minute and under a deadline). I truly believe you can make anything - from jeans to underwire bras to a killer halloween costume.

Fancy dresses are one of my favorite things to make, and I love to meet and bond with others who sew, so I'm very excited to help plan Twin Cities Frocktails 2024!

Hi, I’m Katie! I started sewing in 2013 as a way to escape the stress of grad school and I’ve been making my clothes ever since! I like focusing on construction and design details and am perpetually working on defining my personal style through my handmade wardrobe. I hope to meet you in person at Frocktails!
